The food: Chinese
Hang Dai Chinese

One of the buzziest openings of 2016. Wood-fired duck, family style feasts and great music in a makeshift subway carriage on Camden St.

"At the end of my first review of Hang Dai, I predicted that it wouldn’t be a flash in the pan, and so it has proved – if anything, it’s gotten even better. It may be competing with more restaurants than ever before, but I’d still bet on this place going the distance."

"Hang Dai is a welcome change from the bog-standard Chinese restaurant. They’ve kept the fun of a friendly feast and made it different and more delicious." 8/10

"Fried prawn toast with yuzu mayo should really not feature on any sensible January eating plan, but what the hell? It's too good to pass by. Oysters topped with chilli, soy, lime, coriander and prickly oil, whatever that is, are briny and vibrant, and pork dumplings with sweet soy, just perfect." Food 8/10. Value 8/10.

"...the quality of the food and service – our waiter was excellent, and the food came out of the kitchen pretty quickly considering how busy the place was – means Hang Dai is unlikely to be a flash in the pan."
