The food: Modern Irish

The latest incarnation of longstanding Locks, from Paul McNamara and Conor O'Dowd, is widely said to be its best yet. Modern Irish cooking with a focus on great Irish ingredients, and an interesting, thoughtfully chosen wine list with a slant towards Portugal. The tables at the window overlooking the canal are the best seats in a stunning dining room.

"We rather floated out after our meal, high on the pleasures of fine food and wine consumed in a place in harmony with its self and its surroundings."

"Locks has come into its own. The food is brilliant and easily outflanks restaurants where tables are much harder to secure."

Katy McGuinness, Irish Independent

"The suet pudding comes gently anointed with a light foam of chanterelles and is a thing of beauty; the rich venison inside contrasting with a suet crust that is not heavy at all. " Food 8/10. Value 8/10.

"There is some very good cooking at Locks and I know I have been a little tetchy, but there are refinements that would make this a destination restaurant." Food 7/10. Value 8/10.
