The food: Indian
Pickle Restaurant Dublin

Vibrant, authentic Indian food packed with freshness and flavour, miles away from the greasy kormas and naan breads that most Irish people associate with the cuisine. Sunil Ghai ran the kitchens for the Jaipur group before going it alone, and dishes like tandoori guinea fowl, goat keema and wild boar vindaloo have had Pickle packed since it opened.

"...the “lentils” listed on the menu turn up as a bowl of dhal cooked for 36 hours so that the whole thing has melded to a velvety soup of rolling tastes spooned on to fresh puffy naan. It’s one of the best dhals I’ve ever tasted." 9/10.

"This is multi-layered, mindful modern food full of bright, vibrant flavours that is deliberately lighter than the interpretation of Indian food that we have been used to getting in Ireland." Food 9/10. Value 7/10.

"A simple enough blend of chilli, tomato, coconut, and yoghurt had hidden depths of flavour and incredible subtlety — I’d bathe in it." Food 8/10. Value 8/10.

"...Pickle is lovely. It’s not retro. It’s fresh and vibrant. It’s a cook being true to his heart which is the way things always taste the best." 4/5.
