14 Restaurants You Can Now Collect Food From

We're all reeling from the events of the past week, but few more so than Dublin’s hospitality industry which has seen unprecedented closures and layoffs. While front-line medical staff will continue to be the heroes of this pandemic, some Dublin restaurant owners and staff have had to become very creative in their thinking in order to try to maintain jobs while keeping staff and customers safe, and these 14 places are going above and beyond to deliver quality food that you can collect at their door. (Also check out yesterday's feature on 8 new restaurants offering delivery, all of which you can also collect from - read that here)

1) Michael's (* On Pause For Now*)

With a collection menu featuring a ‘walk in the park’ sub-heading, Michael's are open for business. Their famous sharing seafood platters are available for collection at €32 a head, as well as fish and chips, scampi fritti and overnight slow roast beef shin with fettuccine - see the full menu on their website. They have strict protocols in place to keep everyone safe (including placing the food in your boot and wiping the handle) and have managed to keep five staff in jobs and some suppliers ticking over. So far reports are as excellent as ever.

2) The Chop House, Dublin 4

The Chophouse have just launched a concise menu which is available for collection only from their Shelbourne Road location. Famous for their steaks, you too could be the proud owner of an 8oz dry-aged rib-eye, cooked to your liking with all the trimmings for €24. If that's not up your street there's a Hereford beef burger, spicy prawns or crab linguine. It's is a cash free service and you can pay over the phone before collection. Bonus points for giving a €10 restaurant voucher with each dinner order to spend in the restaurant when we have something to celebrate again. Details of today's menu and how to order can be found on their Facebook page.

3) Ruchii, Blackrock

Hovering by the red door of Conway’s Pub in Blackrock used to mean something else (we're looking at you smokers), but in the ‘new’ normal it means your allotted time slot to collect your order from Ruchii has arrived. With orders being scheduled to stay within social distancing guidelines, you're unlikely to bump into your neighbour while darting out to collect a curry, and the meal deal is amazing value at €15 including a curry of your choice, rice and daal. Why would you bother cooking? See Ruchii's takeaway menu and how to order on their website.

4) BuJo, Sandymount (*Have Now Stopped*)

Over in Sandymount, a flash of inspiration by staff has seen Bujo able to remain open with a contactless collection service delivered via WhatsApp video. If there was ever a time in our lives that we needed a chargrilled double patty of grass fed Irish beef, cheese, pickles and homemade burger sauce on a toasted brioche bun with a side of panko pickles, this is it. Take it to Sandymount Green or the beach and have a picnic while keeping your social distance from everyone. Order and pay in advance on Bujo's website.
