- We nearly fainted this morning when one of our readers sent us images of fire trucks outside Variety Jones, but thankfully the team said it was a smoke issue and there was no fire. It's been 18 months since the original fire in their new premises  sent them back to the old one while repair works were done, and they're only back in since earlier this year. We thought last year was peak Christmas sandwich hysteria, but each year it seems to shift into a new gear. This year's seen Japanese sandos, off piste meats like duck and beef cheek, and "pigs in blanket gildas" being served on top, which clearly we were straight off to try.
